Silver Creek Township supervisors approve Monticello Fire contract, suspend driveway ordinance enforcement

Silver Creek Township supervisors voted 4-0 on Aug. 20, 2024, to approve a Monticello Fire contract, suspend enforcement of Township Ordinance 2015-08-18 while the ordinance is rewritten, and authorize up to $4,000 for a maintenance tack trailer.
Vice Chairman Mike Helman called the meeting to order at 7:02 p.m. and the board recorded attendance with Chairman Chris Newman absent. Clerk-Treasurer Alana Paumen reported fund balances that included a General Fund balance of $147,469.20, Road & Bridge of $519,954.07 and an ARPA balance of $13,772.51.
On routine business, Supervisor Brandon Geyen moved to approve the minutes from Aug. 6 and Supervisor Sandy Forsman seconded; the board approved the motion 4-0. The board also approved the list of claims and audited items, which included claim #18935 for $43,683.60 and smaller claims totaling several thousand dollars.
Under old business, the board noted that a certified letter was sent to Mr. John Haack on Aug. 14, 2024. The board reviewed the Monticello Fire contract and approved it by motion; the minutes record the motion as carried 4-0. The board also completed a road tour that same day.
During discussion the board determined that the current Driveway Permit conflicts with Township Ordinance 2015-08-18. Vice Chairman Mike Helman moved that the township not enforce Ordinance 2015-08-18 and remove it from the township website until the board can revise it, and to continue using the driveway permit with no fees in the interim; Supervisor Brandon Geyen seconded the motion and it carried 4-0.
In new business the board deferred action on a Wright County Code of Ordinances response (solid waste) to the Sept. 3 meeting. Supervisors discussed remaining ARPA funds and possible uses, including a road project, an office computer and hall flooring estimates to be gathered by Supervisor Ryan Nelson. The board authorized the maintenance department to spend up to $4,000 on a tack trailer by motion (carried 4-0).
Maintenance reported early-season mowing while weather permits. The meeting was adjourned at 8:36 p.m. following a motion by Supervisor Brandon Geyen and a second by Supervisor Sandy Forsman.
