Vice Chairman Mike Helman moved and Supervisor Sandy Forsman seconded a motion to hire Schmitz Excavating to clean ditches on Baker Avenue for time-and-materials work not to exceed $10,000; the board carried the motion 4-0.
The board said it had received an estimate putting the cost between $8,000 and $10,000 to clean both ditches serving Baker Avenue. Vice Chairman Mike Helman introduced the motion at the July 9 meeting; Supervisor Forsman seconded. The recorded outcome was four yes votes, none opposed; Supervisor Nelson was absent.
The action follows routine maintenance reports noting recent ditch mowing and ongoing graveling on township roads. By approving the work, the board authorized staff to contract with Schmitz Excavating and proceed up to the $10,000 limit without returning to the board for incremental approvals.
The board did not specify a start date for the work or identify funding sources beyond the general township maintenance budget. The matter was recorded as carried 4-0 and will proceed under the contract terms for time and materials.
