NJDOT to install curve chevrons on Route 29; Stockton to pursue lighting upgrades and parking study

Stockton Borough Council discussed pedestrian and traffic safety along Route 29 at its March 17 meeting. Mayor Aaron Lipsen relayed notice from NJDOT that chevron signs will be installed near the Prallsville Mill, at the Route 523 intersection and on the northbound approach from Lambertville, with work expected within roughly a year and a half.
NJDOT also conducted a lighting study for the crosswalk across from the Eagle Gas Station and the Route 523/Route 29 intersection; designs will be provided to JCP&L for cost estimates. Councilmembers said the borough’s engineering firm will manage pedestrian-safety improvements and discussed whether to set a budget for a separate parking study; Councilperson Kate Meltzer urged a holistic approach to green space and parking when pursuing an open-space grant.
Infrastructure Committee member William Brown reported the borough is close to identifying a water-service leak on Route 29 near the church and school. Brown said the borough determined the leak is the town’s responsibility, that repairing the service line and installing a new fire hydrant could require two days of work with flagging, and that the borough is coordinating contractors and cost estimates with NJDOT.
