Superintendent Danny Papa presented projected preschool enrollment for fiscal 2026: 30 in‑district three‑year‑olds, 41 four‑year‑olds, four students with IEPs placed in general‑education preschool classrooms, for a total of 75 students across five classrooms. The board voted to permit the superintendent and business administrator to sign the grant agreement if it is awarded.
Why it matters: The grant, if funded, would support expansion of full‑day prekindergarten capacity in the Stillwater Township School District and affect classroom assignments, staffing and operating budgets. Administrators said the submission follows state PEA procedures and requires the district to commit to the grant terms if awarded.
The board also approved a shared‑service contract for a part‑time regional curriculum coordinator, Kristen Karl, at an annual cost of $48,000. The contract will be prorated to $24,000 effective Jan. 1, 2026 and split equally among Sandyston‑Walpack, Fredon, Hampton, Stillwater and Kittatinny Regional High School, with the Fredon Township Board of Education serving as the local education agency for contracting purposes.
Board members moved and seconded the PEA authorization and related curriculum contract during the Education & Curriculum portion of the meeting; the motions passed on roll‑call with all voting aye and one member absent.
Next steps: The district administration will submit the electronic PEA operational plan to the New Jersey Department of Education and, if awarded, execute the grant agreement per board authorization.
