Stillwater BOE advances preschool admissions policy to second reading, sets district goals and adopts Week of Respect

At its Sept. 22 meeting the Stillwater Township Board of Education advanced Policy #5111.1 (Preschool Admissions) to a second reading, developed board and district goals for 2025–26 to be finalized next meeting, and adopted a Week of Respect resolution.
The Stillwater Township Board of Education on Sept. 22 advanced its Preschool Admissions Policy (Policy #5111.1) to a second reading and agreed to finalize board and district goals for the 2025–26 year at the next meeting. President Krista Galante called the regular meeting to order at 7:00 p.m. in the Stillwater School Library.
The board heard a goal-setting session led by consultant Kathleen Helewa; members agreed to approve goals at the next meeting and then develop action plans to implement them. Superintendent Dr. Danny Papa also provided Harassment, Intimidation and Bullying (HIB) training; the presentation is attached to the meeting minutes.
The policy motion (Policy #5111.1, Preschool Admissions) passed on second reading by voice vote with the board recorded as Aye. The session included a public comment from Kaitlyn Hammerle, who thanked the board for the discussion and the results reached on the preschool policy, saying, "Thank you for the discussion and results for the preschool policy and for all the hard work everyone put in." President Galante also thanked Principal Marissa Cramer and Dr. Papa for checking other districts’ preschool policies.
In education and curriculum business, the board approved Title I parental involvement documents and a School-Parent Compact, and accepted a Memorandum of Understanding with Insite Health Inc to provide a wellness platform to students at no cost to the district; Insite Health may provide psychiatric evaluations if needed, at the rates listed in the agenda but with a combined cap of $2,000 for the district.
The board adopted a resolution declaring Oct. 6–10, 2025 as 'Week of Respect' under the Anti-Bullying Bill of Rights and separately declared Oct. 20–24, 2025 as 'School Violence Awareness Week' in accordance with N.J.S.A. 18A:36-5.1. Both resolutions passed on recorded voice votes. The resolutions note required instructional and staff training activities and the board’s intent to coordinate with law enforcement and district staff on observance programming.
The board said it will finalize the written goals at the next regular meeting and follow with the development of measurable action plans.
