Board agrees in straw poll to prioritize siblings for full preschool; formal policy to follow

Krista Galante, president of the Stillwater Township Board of Education, said the board discussed preschool waitlist procedures at the Sept. 8 Committee of the Whole meeting and conducted a straw poll to prioritize siblings when classroom space allows.
Superintendent Danny Papa said the district's immediate approach is to accommodate siblings where possible and that the long-term goal is to open an additional preschool classroom for 2026–27 if funding and approval from the PEA Department are obtained. "This is the first year the preschool program has reached full capacity," Papa said, and administrators will develop a formal written policy to reflect the board's direction.
In public comment, Kaitlyn Hammerle (952 Millbrook Road) urged the board to add siblings to the priority list so that twins and siblings can attend the same school. Hammerle said the change would support families "and the stability to keep the families together at one school." Meghan Jaworski (967 Millbrook Road) later thanked the board for clarifying that siblings would be considered districtwide. JP Domiciano (908 Fairview Lake Rd) urged the district to craft its own policy rather than simply copying other districts' practices.
The board did not adopt a finalized admissions policy at the meeting; instead it asked administration to draft a formal policy and return it for consideration. The timetable for the policy's adoption was not specified at the meeting.
