Stillwater board holds first reading of preschool admissions policy, approves grounds contracts and declines optional supplemental deadly-weapons insurance

The Stillwater Township Board of Education on July 21 conducted a first reading of a draft preschool admissions policy and approved several building and grounds items while declining an optional supplemental deadly-weapons insurance package.
During the Education & Curriculum section the board approved the first reading of Policy 5111.1 (Preschool Admissions Policy). The policy remains at first-reading stage and will return for future action after review; a resident asked for additional details about the draft preschool policy during public participation.
On facilities matters Business Administrator René Metzgar updated the board on planned work including kitchen painting and a walking path. Metzgar and Interim Superintendent Braden Hirsch briefed the board about an optional supplemental insurance policy offered through Arthur Gallagher that would provide additional deadly-weapons incident coverage, training and facility assessments. The administrators noted the district already has coverage through the New Jersey Schools Insurance Group and that similar assessments and trainings are available through State Police, the sheriff's office and other agencies; the board concluded the supplemental policy was not necessary at this time.
Separately, the board approved the building-use calendar for August 2025, agreed to limited parking-lot use by the Men in Recovery Group on Sundays from July 20, 2025 through May 24, 2026, and approved a contract with Water Management Services, Inc. (Ronald Busacco) as the district's licensed water operator from Aug. 1, 2025 through June 30, 2026 at $400 per month and $75 per hour for emergency services. The motions were approved by voice vote.
During public participation Kaitlyn Hammerle asked for updates on federal grants, the length of transportation contract renewals, and details of the new draft preschool policy; the administration responded where appropriate. The meeting adjourned at 7:25 p.m.
