Council sets lagoon access policy, hears park and permit updates

Stanhope council agreed June 9 that council members will be issued lagoon keys for after-hours access and will record who receives access; the meeting also included updates on park repairs, building permits and public-safety equipment.
Gary Northrop told the council he was concerned that a replaced lock on the Stanhope Lagoon limited weekend and after-hours access for residents. The council decided that council members will be issued lagoon keys to provide access when needed and that they will record whom they grant access to in the clerk’s office. City Clerk Jori Young noted Public Works employee Tim Dally has final authority over what may be disposed of at the lagoon.
Mayor Jeff Schroeder and council members also reported a series of routine operational items. Chief Brad Anderson said high-visibility jackets for Fire/EMS personnel have been ordered and a new tornado siren has been received and will be tested. Schroeder said the city needs an audit of water and sewer rates to inform any future rate increase decisions.
The council recorded two building permits approved by the permit committee (Grant Young – landscaping and flagpole; Terry Jacobson – a non-permanent shed). Jensen said recent bathroom repairs in the park were completed and volunteered to obtain more sand and rock for the ball diamond; council members praised volunteers and local businesses that supported park events.
A final invoice from EJS appeared in the meeting packet; Mayor Schroeder said that payment had been previously approved when the prior EJS 28E agreement was entered into, so no additional vote on payment was required at this meeting.
