Arts Council schedules Student Art Showcase, rotating exhibits, workshops and Earth Day public art

The Windsor Locks Arts Council used its Feb. 12 meeting to finalize dates and planning for several spring events and programs.

Julie Aligata-Seymour outlined key upcoming events: a Luppoleto Brewing open-mic on Feb. 21 from 6:00 to 8:30 p.m. and a Songwriters Showcase on Feb. 22 from 3:00 to 5:30 p.m., which the council will promote. The Student Art Showcase and Hall of Fame ceremony is scheduled for March 26 at 6:30 p.m. at the Windsor Locks Senior Center; permission slips were distributed to schools, with nominations due by March 1 although members discussed possibly extending that deadline.

Julie also described the town‑hall rotating exhibit schedule: current artwork will come down in mid‑February, Tom Missati’s work will be hung beginning March 2 for most of March, and Student Art Showcase works will be displayed March 27 through May 1.

For Earth Day on April 22, Aligata-Seymour proposed a public‑art installation and solicited donations. Suggested sites included the space across from Saint Mary’s Church; one idea was a painted bicycle with a floral basket and a directional post to local points of interest. She said she will put out an announcement to solicit donations.

April Sweeney reported on classes and workshops. A glass‑fusing class will be held April 10 with the Arts Council covering $30 of the $55 student fee. Members also discussed the prospect of a 3D‑printing workshop and a furniture repainting project at future meetings.

The council announced winners from a seven-entry photo contest; the selected photographs have been matted and are on display at Town Hall.
