Board approves consent agenda, adopts two policy revisions and backs Route 1 school-zone request to NYSDOT

The Rhinebeck Union Free School District board on Monday approved routine business items, adopted two policy revisions and unanimously passed a resolution asking the New York State Department of Transportation to establish a school zone on Route 1 by the middle/high school campus.
On a motion to approve the consent agenda (which listed minutes, personnel actions, bus patrol contract, seasonal athletic stipends, acceptance of the external audit and other routine matters), the board voted in favor as called by the Moderator. The consent agenda included acceptance of the annual audit and district management action plan and multiple personnel and financial items.
The board also adopted revisions to district policies that had been presented for first reading at an earlier meeting. Policy 47-72 and Policy 47-73 were read for a second time and approved on the record.
On transportation safety, the board approved a formal resolution supporting creation of a school zone on Route 1 near the Rhinebeck Middle School/High School campus. The board directed the district clerk to forward the resolution to the New York State Department of Transportation requesting crosswalk markings, signage and reduced speed limits; speakers noted a planned state repaving of that stretch in 2026 and referenced a similar village resolution.
The board accepted a grant from the Rhinebeck School Foundation and accepted a donation of gift cards (from 'John Chewies', per the meeting record) for use at a student-senate volleyball tournament. No public comments were recorded on those items, and the meeting adjourned after the actions were taken.
