Larchmont trustees tighten parking hours, convert unused taxi stalls to meter parking

The Village of Larchmont Board of Trustees on Oct. 21 approved multiple parking-rule changes intended to simplify enforcement and add capacity near the train station. Assistant Administrator Alon Katzin told trustees that meter and permit spaces in Lots 1 and 2 will be placed in effect from 6 a.m. to 6 p.m. “So this resolution is gonna be cleaning it up, so that, Lot 1 and Lot 2 meter and permit spaces are all gonna be in effect 6AM to 6PM,” Katzin said.
Trustees amended the resolution to also modify the 8-hour on-street zones on Woodland Avenue, Deepa Way East and West, and the west side of Palmer Avenue so drivers can begin paid parking before 8 a.m. to align those areas with the new lot hours. Mayor (speaker 1) then called for the vote; Trustee Paray moved the amended resolution and Trustee Post seconded. The motion passed unanimously.
Katzin also proposed converting space previously reserved for licensed taxi cabs in Parking Lot 1 into meter parking, citing decreased taxi use and the fact that the taxi company that previously leased the spaces was no longer operating. “The village is looking to convert those back into meter parking,” Katzin said. He said a small queuing area (Lot 8) will remain available for taxis and that the village will update signage and the website to reflect the changes. Trustee Fanelli moved the taxi-space resolution; Trustee Paray seconded; the board approved it unanimously.
What this means: the changes standardize parking enforcement hours across busy lots, add short-term meter capacity near the train station, and preserve a queuing area for taxis should a company resume service. Katzin said updated signs will be installed and the village will notify the public online.
