Assembly approves underground tank removal and air-handling upgrade contracts

The Kodiak Island Borough Assembly authorized two facility contracts Tuesday: removal of a 300‑gallon underground storage tank at the annex building and upgrades to the administration building’s air-handling unit.

For contract FY2026-55, the assembly moved to authorize the borough manager to execute an agreement with a maintenance LLC to remove the annex building’s underground storage tank. Manager Williams said the item was originally an alternate in a demolition bid package; the standalone invitation for bids produced two proposals and staff recommended the lowest responsive bidder. The assembly approved the motion on roll call (recorded yes votes by six members).

The assembly also approved contract FY2027-09 with Long Technologies for air-handling system updates at the Kodiak Island Borough administration building, in an amount not to exceed $133,520. Manager Williams explained staff discovered Air Handling Unit 2 had been left without functioning controls during a prior boiler and direct‑digital‑control project and restoring controls is necessary to maintain proper circulation. The motion passed on a recorded roll call with all members voting yes.

Engineering and Facilities Director Cody Allen was present for questions on both projects; staff noted bids were publicly advertised and the recommended contractors were found responsive under borough procurement rules. The approved contracts authorize the borough manager to execute agreements consistent with staff recommendations and the appropriation of funds for these maintenance projects.
