Director Colin Johnson presented a conceptual plan to develop campground and outdoor hospitality amenities (including cabins/glamping, RV hookups and primitive camping) as a way to diversify the city’s tourist offerings and produce revenue. He described examples where municipalities own and operate small cabin parks as short-stay rentals and suggested the EDC explore a pilot of five to eight units on a modest footprint.
The board discussed possible nightly rates, minimum ages for renters, potential discounts for residents and veterans, and partnership responsibilities. Directors agreed the idea is suitable for Parks & Recreation review and moved to have Director Johnson coordinate presentation of the concept to that committee; the motion carried.
