Lookout Mountain board elects Walker Jones mayor and names commissioners’ roles

At its Sept. 10 meeting the Town of Lookout Mountain Board of Commissioners elected Walker Jones as mayor, assigned commissioners to departmental oversight and appointed town officers including Town Attorney Brian C. Smith and Town Marshal Dale Taylor; all actions were unanimous.
The Town of Lookout Mountain on Sept. 10 elected Walker Jones to serve as mayor and assigned commissioners to oversee town departments, following certification of the August 2024 election results and the swearing-in of newly elected officials.
Brooke Pippenger reported that the Hamilton County Election Commission certified the results, and Lookout Mountain Municipal Court Judge Stevie Persinger administered the Oath of Office to the newly elected commissioners and school board members. After being sworn in, the commissioners voted to select officers and make appointments. Commissioner Karen Leavengood moved and Commissioner James E. Bentley Jr. seconded the motion electing Walker Jones as mayor; the vote was unanimous.
The Board elected James E. Bentley Jr. to serve as Mayor Pro-Tem and William Valadez as Town Treasurer. Jennifer Hopper was appointed Town Tax Collector and Court Clerk, and Brooke Pippenger was appointed Recorder, Assistant Treasurer and Certified Municipal Finance Officer. By motion of Commissioner Bentley, seconded by Commissioner Valadez and approved unanimously, Brian C. Smith was retained as Town Attorney. The Board also appointed Dale Taylor to serve, at the will of the Commission, as Town Marshal and as Plumbing and Building Inspector; Judge Persinger later administered the oath to appointed officials.
Mayor Jones announced departmental oversight assignments: Commissioner Bentley will oversee Fire and Police; Commissioner Leavengood will oversee Education; Commissioner Valadez will oversee Public Works; and Commissioner Hailey will oversee Parks and Playgrounds. All votes recorded in the minutes were unanimous.
