Port Clinton City Council convened Sept. 23 and completed routine procedural business, appointed an acting clerk and scheduled several ordinances and resolutions for subsequent readings.
At the start of the meeting, Jerry Tarolli moved to appoint Council member Beth Gillman as Acting Council Clerk; Pat Hovis seconded and the motion passed. Margaret Phillips moved to approve the Sept. 9, 2025 regular meeting minutes; Pat Hovis seconded and the motion passed.
Committee reports and staff updates set the calendar for upcoming readings. The Environment and Public Works Committee, chaired by Jerry Tarolli, recommended council consider adopting Ordinance 24-25 (an FHWA grant to implement the City of Port Clinton Active Transportation Infrastructure Improvement Program); the ordinance will advance to third reading on Oct. 14. Resolution 25-6 (expressing support for new single‑family homes) also will move to third reading on Oct. 14. Ordinance 26-25 (vacating a north-south alley) had its first reading and will be moved to second reading on Oct. 14, as will Resolution 25-7 (accepting amounts and rates determined by the County Budget Commission).
During public comment, Dave Barth reported that 420 Monroe Street is overgrown and needs attention; Elva Cortez said she had left a bucket of yard waste at a boulevard location for about two months and the city crew would not pick it up because some items in the pile could not go through the shredder. A city representative (Colston) said he would drive by and follow up with Ms. Cortez.
Council members also discussed local facility tours and upcoming procurement: Jerry Tarolli asked to tour 201 Madison Street to discuss renovation options; Mayor Snider said administration will arrange a tour and that a Criteria Architect has been hired to assess 201 Madison and 1868 E. Perry Street. Cathy King asked about a communication‑staffing item discussed at a committee meeting; administration said no hire has been made and asked that committee minutes be forwarded to administration. The administration said an ordinance to authorize a new garbage/recycling bid will appear at the Oct. 14 meeting and that the administration will make bid documents available once the ordinance is adopted; the Environment & Public Works committee had recommended including brush pickup in the bid package, a request administration said it had not received previously.
With no further business, Margaret Phillips moved to adjourn, Jerry Tarolli seconded, and the meeting was adjourned at 6:29 p.m.
