The Hobart City Redevelopment Authority approved a professional services agreement with Americo (consultant) to prepare design and bidding documents for asbestos abatement and remediation of a flooded facility that the board intends to demolish.
Jeff, the Americo representative, told the board the site contains asbestos and that his firm will prepare full drawings, bid documents, sampling plans and project management for abatement and disposal. He said the rough current estimate was about $120,000 and that soil remediation outside the structure remained an uncertain cost driver.
"There's asbestos there," Jeff said, describing the estimate and noting that unknown soil remediation could increase the price.
A board member moved and the board approved a professional services agreement to start the abatement design and bidding process.
Staff said once the abatement and paving work are complete the site will be ready for demolition.
