District highlights 'Leader in Me' initiative, welcomes teacher residents and accepts community donation

Administrators presented the district’s Leader in Me initiative and invited Spearman Elementary principal Jason Leslie to describe how the framework operates at the classroom level. Leslie said the program provides a common language around seven habits that supports student goal-setting, leadership roles, student-led conferences and improved belonging.
"Leader in Me has helped students take ownership of their learning — they set academic and behavioral goals, carry leadership portfolios and run service projects," Leslie said, describing class jobs, leadership portfolios and student-led conferences as concrete examples of the framework in practice.
The board also introduced a cohort of teacher residents who will join Anderson One next year, including Jenny Lee, Ashley Barry, Grayson Lamb, Ellison Puit, Savannah Sheiley and Hannah Moore; each spoke briefly about their assignments and excitement to join local schools.
Eric Aken of the local Masonic lodge told trustees the lodge voted to donate $500 to support special-needs programs at local schools. The board applauded the gift and recognized staff and administrators involved in recruitment and adult-education achievements.
