The Athens City Council held a public hearing Jan. 12 on a request by Adriana Ornelas and Jose Lopez for a Specific Use Permit to place a manufactured home on Lots 9B, 9B1 and 9B2 (Property ID: 234045) at 839 N. Prairieville St.
City Planner Ronda Cockerham presented the request, noting the Future Land Use Plan designates the area as Medium Density Residential with Commercial/Office to the east. Notifications were sent to 13 surrounding property owners; one response was returned. The Planning & Zoning Commission recommended approval by a 2–1–1 vote.
Mayor Smith opened the public hearing. Applicant Jose Lopez said the location would be his primary residence and that he planned to add a concrete foundation beneath the manufactured home. There were no other public comments, and the council closed the hearing. City Secretary Bonnie Hambrick read the caption for the ordinance's first reading on the Specific Use Permit; the transcript records the first reading but does not record a final council vote on the SUP on Jan. 12.
Because the Planning & Zoning Commission vote included dissenting and abstaining members, and because the council conducted only a first reading on Jan. 12, the permit remains subject to subsequent council action.
