The Piperton Board approved first reading of Ordinance No. 418‑26, which amends two parts of the Zoning Ordinance: fence height allowances and the maximum cumulative sign area for residential zone lots.
City Planner Brett Morgan said the Planning Commission recommended text changes to Article 3.13 (Fences, Walls and Hedges) after an applicant requested a front‑yard fence exceeding the usual 4‑foot limit. Under the proposed amendment the Planning Commission or Design Review Commission may approve a front‑yard fence up to 60 inches (5 feet) where the site is at least five acres, the increased height is essential for livestock security, the fence complies with other ordinance requirements and private covenants do not prohibit the change.
The ordinance also amends Article 8.12 to increase the maximum cumulative residential sign area from 2 square feet to 6 square feet. Commissioner Joel Townsend moved to approve Ordinance No. 418‑26 on first reading and the motion carried with all affirmative votes.
What’s next: The amendment passed first reading and will return as required for subsequent readings and final adoption procedures.
