Maynardville commission approves water-and-sewer adjustment, vehicle purchase and $100,000 in Main Street paving; reduces planned rate increase to 1.5%

The Maynardville City Commission on April 8 approved a resolution adjusting water and sewer matters, authorized the purchase of a Chevrolet Equinox for the city manager, approved $100,000 in paving for Main Street and voted to reduce a planned water and sewer rate increase to 1.5% effective July 2025.
Commissioner Len Padgett moved to approve Resolution R-2025-08 on water and sewer adjustments; Commissioner Conner Chesney seconded and the resolution passed on a 5–0 roll-call vote. Earlier in the meeting, the commission unanimously approved the minutes of the March 11, 2025 meeting following a motion by Padgett and second by Commissioner Isaac Collins.
On budget items, the commission took no action on two first-reading ordinances. Commissioner Len Padgett moved, and Commissioner Jennipher Ford seconded, that Ordinance O-2025-04 (an amendment to the FY25 budget) receive no action; the motion carried 5–0. Commissioner Isaac Collins moved, and Commissioner Conner Chesney seconded, to take no action on Ordinance O-2025-05 (to set the FY26 budget); that motion also carried 5–0.
During the City Attorney’s report, Commissioner Conner Chesney moved and Commissioner Len Padgett seconded a request to add an ordinance restricting street parking on Willow Grace to the May 2025 agenda. The motion passed 4–1, with Commissioner Isaac Collins opposed.
On procurement, Commissioner Ty Blakely moved and Commissioner Conner Chesney seconded to purchase a Chevrolet Equinox on the state contract for the city manager; the roll-call showed four votes in favor and one pass by Commissioner Len Padgett, and the motion carried. Separately, Commissioner Len Padgett moved and Commissioner Conner Chesney seconded to use the Union County contract to perform $100,000 worth of paving on Main Street; that motion passed unanimously (5–0).
Under "Other Business," Commissioner Len Padgett moved and Commissioner Jennipher Ford seconded to reduce the planned annual water and sewer rate increase from 3% to 1.5% effective July 2025. The motion passed 4–1, with Commissioner Isaac Collins voting against.
There were no comments from the commission recorded in the minutes. The meeting adjourned at 7:38 p.m.
