At its Oct. 6 Personnel Committee meeting, the Ouachita Parish Police Jury approved the 2026 employee benefits renewals and several personnel actions.
The committee approved a 2026 health insurance renewal with Blue Cross Blue Shield of Louisiana; dental, voluntary life and basic life renewals with MetLife; and a 0% renewal for vision insurance with Guardian Vision. The committee also approved offering a New York Life whole-life policy as a new employee benefit if the company meets a 50-employee minimum. On motions offered by Mr. Smiley and seconded by Mr. Thompson, the renewals and new benefit authorization passed without opposition.
Chief Bobby Moore submitted personnel items for the Fire Department: sick leave requests were approved, Cody Jones was confirmed from probationary captain to permanent captain, and two firefighters submitted resignations; the Jury approved these personnel actions. Federal Programs director Doretha Bennett requested hiring LaRhonda Johnson as the compliance, monitoring, management information systems and equal opportunity officer; the Jury approved the hire on motion.
The minutes record these approvals as routine personnel and benefits administration actions; specific premium amounts for the insurance renewals beyond the health vendor name are not included in the minutes.
