Palmer School Committee adopts Section E policy revisions and wellness policy

The School Committee unanimously adopted revisions to Section E of the Palmer School Committee Policy Manual and approved the district wellness policy on Feb. 11; members asked for clarification on EHAA and support for walkers in cold weather.
At its Feb. 11 meeting the Palmer School Committee voted unanimously to adopt the referenced policies in Section E of the Palmer School Committee Policy Manual and separately approved the Palmer Public Schools Wellness Policy on third reading.
During discussion Mr. Joseph Nompleggi asked about policy EHAA; Superintendent Matthew Francis confirmed there are practices and procedures in place addressing the subject but no formal policy previously adopted under that code. Ms. Bonny Rathbone asked about EEAA and how the district supports walkers in dangerously cold weather; Francis said that PHS can use space on buses and drivers may pick up walkers as they see them and that stops are planned ahead of the season as needed.
Ms. Sandra Noonan moved to adopt the Section E policies and Mr. Anthony Braden seconded; the motion passed 5–0. Later, Mr. Braden moved and Mr. Nompleggi seconded approval of the wellness policy; that motion also passed unanimously.
Committee members did not attach additional conditions; administration will continue to rely on current practices where formal policy is not in place and will bring further updates if policy language is developed.
