Sharon commission approves pond cleanout, canopy and garage permits and accepts beaver‑control applications

The Town of Sharon Inland Wetland & Watercourse Commission on June 8 approved several property‑level permits and accepted two applications for further action.
Contractor Chris Hiller presented a plan to clean out an 8–10‑foot‑deep pond at 60 Sharon Mountain Road. The plan calls for a temporary driveway of natural tailings that will be removed on completion; dredged material will be hauled off site and work will be performed during dry conditions. The commission voted to approve the application as presented.
Carpenter Kirk Bellanca described a proposal to construct a 29‑foot by 16‑foot canopy over an existing stone terrace at 33 South Main Street. The commission approved the canopy application and noted that concrete footings will replace stones where required, with limited disturbance to the terrace.
Homeowner Gregory Todd sought approval for a garage at 30 King Hill Road and clarified the garage entrance will not be a formal driveway. Todd said the stream that bisects the lot “is very intermittent” and offered to place stones to stabilize the crossing; the commission approved the application with the condition that stone be added to the crossing and that remaining tree stumps be left in place.
Owner Gail Rothschild presented a five‑year maintenance plan to control invasive species at 74 Still Meadow; the commission approved the plan as presented.
The commission also accepted an amendment to the Mudge Pond Association application for water‑chestnut removal and accepted an application to install beaver‑control systems at 80 East Street. Earlier in the meeting the Highway Department announced it will hire Beaver Solutions Co. to install two systems in town — one on West Cornwall Road and a second at 61 Surdan Mountain Road — and foreman Jamie Reid has notified adjoining property owners.
The meeting included administrative reminders about an application for 29 Hospital Hill Road and the July election of officers. Commissioners offered public thanks to Commission Secretary Jamie Casey on her retirement. With no further business the meeting adjourned at 7:35 PM. The commission’s next regular meeting is scheduled for July 13, 2026.
