The Sharon Board of Selectmen voted June 12 to hire William Pietrefase to serve as the town’s Building Official and Fire Marshal and approved a combined salary offer of $105,000, with First Selectman Flanagan authorized to negotiate up to $110,000.
First Selectman Flanagan called the special meeting to order at 11:00 a.m. The board noted one applicant withdrew from consideration after the state requested additional information before allowing that applicant to take the Building Official certification test, leaving William Pietrefase as the remaining qualified candidate.
Selectman Brett moved that William Pietrefase be hired for both positions; Selectman Kearcher seconded the motion, and the board carried it unanimously. The board then reviewed the salary ranges that had been advertised in the proposed 2026–27 budget: a full‑time Building Official at $72,000–$90,000 (based on experience) and a part‑time Fire Marshal at $20,000–$25,000.
After discussing Mr. Pietrefase’s qualifications and his desired compensation, Selectman Brett moved to offer a combined salary of $105,000 for the two roles and to give First Selectman Flanagan authority to negotiate up to $110,000; Selectman Kearcher seconded the motion, which passed unanimously.
Board members said they would like Mr. Pietrefase to start as soon as possible so he can work with Mr. MacMillan during a brief overlap; the minutes note there may be overlapping wages during the transition. With no further business, Selectman Brett moved to adjourn; the motion was seconded by Selectman Kearcher and approved. The meeting adjourned at 11:13 a.m.
The minutes were submitted by Town Secretary Tina Pitcher and filed by the Office of the Town Clerk on June 15, 2026.
