District reports roughly $66,824 drop in consolidated federal grants; Title I hit hardest

East Windsor School District staff told the board they received recent state correspondence showing reduced federal entitlement awards for the district’s consolidated grants. Finance staff provided detailed figures and said the largest impact was to Title I.
According to figures presented by Brian, the district had budgeted $392,744 for Title I but the updated award is $331,246, a reduction of $61,498. Title II budgeted $35,610 and the award fell to $32,584 (a loss of about $3,000). Title III budgeted $9,380 and the award dropped to $7,080 (about $2,300 less). Combined, the district is facing approximately $66,824 less than budgeted for the three entitlement grants.
Staff emphasized these are two-year grants and said the district will attempt to soften the impact by shifting other funding streams and pursuing additional competitive or seed grants where possible. Special-education funding and other targeted grants were noted as partially offsetting some needs.
“It's recent correspondence; we have to dig deeper and take a closer look,” finance staff told the board, adding that administrators had anticipated some reductions but that the award was lower than expected. The board asked staff to return with a detailed plan for adjustments and potential offsets.
Next steps: Finance and program staff will analyze implications for programmatic supports, report back with specific mitigation plans and monitor opportunity to reallocate or secure alternate funding.
