Ridgetop adopts 2025 Parks and Recreation Master Plan to pursue grant funding

Ridgetop — The Mayor and Board of Aldermen voted on Feb. 18 to adopt the City of Ridgetop 2025 Parks and Recreation Master Plan, a policy the mayor's office and park board said will enable the city to pursue state and federal park grants and guide local improvements.
Vice Mayor Harrison told the board that adopting the master plan "will open new doors for the parks" and said the plan’s adoption is expected to allow the city to compete for grant funding. The board added Resolution 25-04 to the meeting agenda and approved the resolution on a unanimous voice vote.
The city already has started small-scale improvements tied to the master plan: Harrison reported the concrete pad for restrooms at Pioneer Park has been poured and that a fence around the park’s basketball court is expected to be installed within two weeks. The park board is also planning the annual Easter Egg Hunt in April.
The council simultaneously re-appointed two park board members, Anna Gregory and Krystal Lyons, to the park board in a separate motion. The reappointment motion carried with Alderman Gregory recorded as abstaining; Vice Mayor Harrison, Aldermen Martin and Gilmore, and Mayor Shaw were recorded as voting yes.
City staff said next steps include incorporating the adopted master plan into grant applications and scheduling follow-up work on identified park projects. No specific grant awards were announced at the meeting.
