The Bamberg County School District Board of Trustees approved the monthly financial report, an amended FY25 budget and a revised administrative salary scale at its Oct. 7 meeting.
Devon, presenting the financial report and budget materials, told trustees the district’s fund balance is approximately $8.4 million and that the district remains in a healthy position relative to required reserves. Devon noted the state changed the teacher salary scale from 23 to 28 years and that insurance costs rose about 11.8 percent — both factors affecting district expenses.
Those present also discussed administrative matters including housing for eight international teachers: the district rented housing and plans to payroll-deduct rent from those employees, a temporary measure taken because of rental barriers for newly arrived teachers.
After questions and clarifications about fees, rent amounts and fund balance reporting requirements to the state, a board member moved to approve the financial report, amended budget and revised salary schedule. The motion was seconded and carried by voice vote with no opposition.
What happens next: The approved amended budget and salary schedule will be reflected in district accounting and the district will continue monthly fund-balance reporting to the State Department of Education.
