The Bamberg County School District Board of Trustees voted Feb. 3 to make up a recently canceled instructional day on Wednesday, Feb. 19, 2025.
Board members debated whether to use the board’s authority to waive an additional day or to schedule a make-up day. Administration told the board the district had used all five state-allowed e-learning days and that two earlier hurricane-related days had already been recovered by removing fall break. After discussion, a board member moved that the district make up the inclement-weather day on Feb. 19; the motion was seconded and approved with no opposition.
Administrators said the district would notify families and staff about required attendance changes and noted the Feb. 19 make-up day is a required instructional day for students and a required work day for staff. The board signaled it will revisit any calendar changes if state legislation changes waiver rules.
The vote followed a presentation by district staff detailing which days had been used as e-learning days and which calendar intercession days remained available for scheduling. The administration also recommended scheduling the make-up day as soon as practicable rather than postponing it toward the end of the school year.
