Plympton library to return costly shelf signs and donates weeded books to More Than Words

Library Director Mike Slawson told the Trustees of the Plympton Public Library at their Jan. 8 meeting that staff completed a weeding of adult and children's collections and that the library's removed books were picked up by More Than Words to free shelf space for new acquisitions and updates.
Trustees who examined newly ordered shelf signs judged their quality insufficient for the cost and unanimously agreed to return the signs to the vendor Demco. Slawson said he will research alternative vendors for future signage purchases.
Slawson also reported that use of the library's food pantry has declined. Trustees agreed to pack up the pantry and return it to the Council on Aging, with the option to restore the pantry at the library if community need increases.
Staff told trustees that December programming had successful attendance and that a new networking group of local business owners now meets at the library on Thursday mornings.
Procedurally, trustees unanimously accepted the minutes from the Dec. 4, 2025 meeting (the transcript does not record a mover or seconder). The trustees set their next meeting for Feb. 5, 2026 and adjourned at 6:50 p.m.
