Council members reported residential damage after a Dec. 19 water main incident and regulator failure along Lytle Road.
Vice Chair Michael Wos described widespread high pressures reaching about 160 psi in developments between Bennett and Boston roads following a regulator failure. He said residents reported exploded hot water tanks, damaged expansion tanks and burst pipes; Cleveland Water dispatched a team Monday to address the condition and the mayor confirmed Cleveland Water has a claims process for affected residents.
City Engineer Matt Glass and Mayor Larry Antoskiewicz discussed prior applications for Cleveland Water grants to replace sections of problematic mains; the mayor said past applications were evaluated by the number of leaks in a given period and that he will attempt another application based on recent events. Council asked the mayor to distribute Cleveland Water’s claims information to all council members.
The committee did not take formal action on the Lytle Road matter during the meeting beyond directing the mayor to share information and agree to pursue grant funding.
