PVPC selects two locations for Vulnerable Road User studies this summer
Summary
PVPC staff said two solicitations were accepted for the year-three vulnerable road user study: a Springfield school-area pedestrian/bike access study and a Brookfield corridor study focused on pedestrian-vehicle conflicts near a historic monument.
Staff briefed the joint transportation committee that the vulnerable road user (VRU) program, now in its third year, received two solicitations that will be advanced this summer. One solicitation will study bicycle and pedestrian access near Washington Street Elementary School in Springfield to examine how students and faculty reach the school. The other will review a location in Brookfield — North Main Street and Brookfield Road — where a faded crosswalk and frequent speeding create conflicts around a historic monument and an adult-learning facility.
Gary Brew said staff will reach out to the municipalities and stakeholders to coordinate a realistic scope and timeline and that this work will be performed over the summer. Committee members had no substantive objections and staff will begin outreach and data collection.
