PVTA reports mixed ridership trends, places bus orders and launches Link 413
Summary
PVTA reported January ridership down 4% (storm-related), February trending up before a subsequent storm, an order for replacement buses with ~18-month build time, and early usage (108 passengers) on the new Link 413 regional service.
PVTA staff reported ridership and service updates at the PVPC meeting Feb. 24.
PVTA staff said January ridership was down about 4 percent, which the agency attributed to a Jan. 25–26 storm that curtailed service. February ridership had been tracking about 6 percent higher than the prior year before recent weather-related cancellations that will be reflected in the full-month totals.
PVTA is placing an order for replacement transit vehicles — 35-foot and 40-foot buses and 60-foot articulated buses — and staff said lead time to build a new bus is roughly 18 months. The agency recently launched Link 413, a regional route connecting Franklin County and Northampton with 108 passengers carried to date.
PVTA also held an exit conference with state auditors on a review of its battery-electric bus work; a final audit report was not yet available at the time of the meeting.
