County approves public-health task order; commissioners question senior-meal bids and service levels

Daniels County commissioners on May 18 approved a public-health task order for fiscal year 2027 and discussed senior-meal service bids and county reimbursement arrangements.
A motion to approve the "Strengthening Public Health Workforce" task order for FY27 (task order id referenced in the meeting) was moved, seconded, and carried. Staff noted the task order number and distributed copies to relevant parties.
Separately, staff reviewed bids for senior-meal provision from the hospital, Rosemary’s, and the town of Foxville. Commissioners noted the hospital bid is higher this year (around $15.09 per meal compared with prior figures around $11.50) and that Foxville reduced service to one day per week. Commissioners discussed whether the county should scale back its provision (for example, reducing county-sponsored days from five to three) or seek alternative providers able to cover five days. They asked staff to obtain the reimbursement rate the county receives, average meal prices for nearby counties, and how many meals the county currently reimburses before making any policy change.
Staff said the public-health task order and the meal contract decisions are separate; commissioners directed staff to return with additional cost and reimbursement information ahead of the July/August budget and contract decisions.
