At the June 15 meeting, the county reviewed a quote for a Motorola XPR 5550 mobile radio and antenna kit priced at $1,364 to equip a newly acquired fire pickup. Neil (fire communications) said the radio is compatible with county systems and asked whether the 911 fund could cover the cost.
Commissioners discussed precedent for using the 911 fund to purchase radio communications equipment; one official said recent radio purchases had come from that fund and recommended doing so again. A motion "to buy the radio and [use the] 911 fund" was made and seconded, and commissioners carried the motion by voice vote.
The county will order the radio and present the invoice at the next PSC meeting for formal processing. Officials also discussed establishing clearer procedures for radio procurement so agencies receive compatible units and recommended coordination among departments for standardization.
