Library board nomination, new hire and accessibility plans highlighted at Daniels County meeting

Kegley said the library board nominated Haley Silverberg to replace a member finishing two five-year terms; commissioners indicated the appointment was acceptable and that residency requirements are met (Silverberg lives in town). Kegley also reported interviews for a library employee concluded with Stephanie McGowan selected; Kegley said McGowan "will start Tuesday next week." She described using a rubric scoring system during interviews and said the new hire will handle indexing, election files and other clerical duties beyond microfilming.
Kegley outlined programs and facility upgrades: a Library of Things (items such as a donated telescope, tables and craft tools available for community checkout), a Bookworm Buddies presentation and an age-appropriate gun-safety class for kindergarten through sixth grade (no live ammunition or guns on site), and plans to explore replacing an older metal storage building with a more secure shed. She asked that restroom upgrades to meet handicap-accessible standards be considered in next year’s budget; no quotes were yet available and the board plans to seek estimates and state-certified contractors when ready.
Commissioners asked that staff obtain contractor liability proof for work at public buildings and confirmed that accessibility work would be discussed in budgeting.
