Nauvoo authorizes agreement with Walker County Commission for election machines

At a special meeting Aug. 8, 2025, the Nauvoo Town Council voted unanimously to enter into an agreement with the Walker County Commission to secure election machines and related services for the Aug. 26 municipal election and any needed runoff on Sept. 23.
Mayor Terry Burgett presented a contract framework covering provision of machines, testing, delivery, setup and return. The agreement names contractor Marc Stephens as the provider of contracted labor; the municipalities of Carbon Hill, Jasper, Sumiton, Dora, Oakman, Parrish, Cordova and Nauvoo will each reimburse the commission for one‑eighth of the total amount paid to Stephens. Council member Deborah Barton moved to enter into the agreement and authorize the mayor to sign; Olivia Allbritton seconded. The roll-call vote was unanimous: Olivia Allbritton, Deborah Barton, Denice Perry, Melinda Wills and Terry Burgett voted yes.
The agreement formalizes intergovernmental cooperation to ensure machines and staffing are available for the scheduled election. The council did not specify a contract dollar amount in the meeting record; reimbursement is described as a proportional share (one‑eighth) of the commission's payment to the contractor. Mayor Burgett was authorized to sign the agreement on behalf of the Town of Nauvoo.
