New Mulga fire engine declared in service after $4,000 in preparations

The Mulga Town Council heard a fire-department update on Feb. 4 after a visitor said the department’s newly purchased engine has been prepared for active service.
Jonathan Goodwin thanked the council for the recent purchase and said the fire department spent $4,000 to ready the new engine. "The fire department has spent $4,000 to get the new engine ready for service. It was re-lettered today and is now in service," Goodwin said.
Council members discussed logistics tied to the new firehouse. When asked how people will access the new fire department doors, Mayor W. Keith Varner said, "Most likely a doorbell will be placed." Varner also said the town plans to pour a walkway from the new firehouse to the storm shelter to improve safe access.
The council did not take formal action related to the fire department at this meeting; the remarks were presented as informational updates during the pre-council and visitor-comment portions of the agenda. The meeting adjourned after the updates and a motion to adjourn passed.
