Mulga council approves $3,000 to park board; discusses dumpster purchase and traffic calming

The Mulga council on Aug. 20 approved a $3,000 allocation to the park board to complete the fiscal year and finish a community "spook trail," and discussed operational and traffic issues affecting the town.
Rachel Davis moved to allocate $3,000 from town funds to the park board to finish the budget year; Jeremy Davis seconded and the motion passed by roll call with all members voting yes. District 5 reported that park workers were also finishing installation of new ballfield lights.
Council members and at least one citizen discussed recurring municipal costs for dumpster service. In pre-council District 1 raised that the town pays approximately $1,000 per month for dumpsters and asked whether the town could buy a trailer. Mayor W. Keith Varner said purchasing a trailer would create an upfront capital expense but reduce ongoing costs: he described earlier pricing near $58,000 for a trailer with three roll-offs and later noted he had received a recent quote of $36,800 for an 18-foot trailer with three roll-offs and would present full pricing (including freight) at the next meeting.
On traffic-calming, visitor Austin Lovelady suggested converting the Bayview Drive and 2nd Street intersection to a four-way stop to slow drivers; the mayor said the council should solicit public input before changing traffic controls.
The park allocation passed; the dumpster purchase and any traffic-control changes were left for further study and public input.
