Mulga receives Bayview Park title, seeks bids and funding for splash pad

The Town of Mulga announced on Aug. 20 that title to Bayview Park has officially been transferred from Jefferson County and that state and federal grant partners have approved the transfer, clearing the way for planned park improvements.
Mayor W. Keith Varner told the council he had received letters and emails from the Alabama Department of Economic and Community Affairs (ADECA) and the Land and Water Conservation Fund approving the transfer of the property’s title to Mulga. "We will offer the email in to be part of the minutes," he said. The council also reported receipt of a county resolution deeded over the property.
Lelan Taylor moved to authorize the mayor to enter into a contract with the Land and Water Conservation Fund; Rachel Davis seconded and the motion passed by roll call with all members voting yes.
The mayor said the town has allocated money for a splash pad and has reached out to Rod Hawkins to request bids. He said the town will also pursue additional grants to help fund construction. A special acknowledgment was made to "Ben Goldman and Shelby Morris" for their work in facilitating the transfer.
The council’s action authorizes the mayor to finalize grant-related contracting steps so the town can solicit bids and move toward construction. No construction contract was awarded at the meeting; council members said they will return with bids and further details at a later date.
