The Union Township Board of Education approved policy actions March 18, approving revisions to the Student Smoking policy (P5533 & R5533) on first read and advancing an Acceptable Use of Generative Artificial Intelligence policy (P2365) through its reading process.
Policy Committee Chair Lou Palma noted that revised policies require only a first reading while new policies require two readings; the AI policy was presented in a multi-read process. Board members discussed the scope of the AI policy and the district cellphone policy during the meeting. The motions were approved as part of the consent agenda by roll-call vote.
Revised and new policy texts were recorded in the meeting packet under Alert 234 and will return for final action as appropriate according to policy reading requirements.
