Union Township board adopts code of ethics, meeting calendar and committee appointments
Summary
The Union Township Board of Education approved a package of reorganization resolutions on Jan. 6, including adoption of the NJ School Boards Association Code of Ethics, designation of Citizens Bank as depository, adoption of electronic funds transfer procedures, Robert's Rules as parliamentary authority, official newspapers and the 2025 meeting calendar; delegates and subcommittee memberships were also appointed.
At its Jan. 6 reorganization meeting the Union Township Board of Education approved a bundle of standard governance resolutions and appointments that set policy and administrative parameters for 2025.
By roll call the board adopted the New Jersey School Boards Association Code of Ethics (RS1) and readopted the district's full policy manual (RS2). It designated Citizens Bank as the district depository and specified authorized warrant signatures for accounts including general, payroll, agency, student activity, capital reserve and others (RS3). The board also adopted required procedures for electronic funds transfers and claimant certification (RS4).
The board adopted Robert's Rules of Order as its parliamentary authority and appointed the board secretary and board attorney to act as parliamentarians through the next reorganization meeting (RS5). It designated The Hunterdon Democrat as the primary official newspaper and listed alternates (The Express Times, Courier News, Daily Record and Star Ledger), and approved the board's 2025 meeting calendar with regular meetings at 6:30 p.m. in the Union Township Elementary School Media Center/Library (RS8).
The board unanimously approved appointments of delegates and representatives (RS6), naming district representatives to the Hunterdon County Educational Services Commission, the Hunterdon County School Boards Association, the New Jersey School Boards Association (delegate and alternate), a township committee liaison and the vo-tech representative. It also approved subcommittee chairs and membership for Negotiations, Policy & Personnel, Facilities & Finance, Education and Superintendent Search (RS7); the minutes list the chair and three members for each subcommittee.
A parent raised a question during the public-privilege portion seeking information on 'Handle with Care' training and availability of explanations for parents; the board also briefly discussed elementary-school gym facility usage under "Other Business." The public meeting adjourned at 7:18 p.m.
Minutes and what they mean: the adopted resolutions are routine, implementing established governance procedures, financial designations and meeting logistics. The committee appointments determine which members will lead negotiations, policy and facilities oversight during the year.
