Arts council will postpone tight-knit mural repairs until town maintenance funds clear

Chair Abby Bernstein told members that Town Meeting had approved a 40% increase in the council’s FY27 allocation—$26,350 annually—with a $1,050 line dedicated to public art maintenance. Because the council had already earmarked nearly half its reserves for mural repairs, Bernstein proposed deferring the stucco mason’s work until the town maintenance funds arrive to avoid draining reserves.
Treasurer Kavita outlined current balances and pending reimbursements. Member Wenli cautioned that postponing work could change quotes or create scheduling conflicts, noting fall is a busy season for contractors. Bernstein said the council would notify the contractor, Daniel (listed as Daniel Noon/Newman in correspondence), and attempt to preserve the original quote; if a re-quote is required, the council could reconvene later.
By unanimous roll call, members approved the plan to delay repairs and use the town maintenance line when available, covering up to an estimated $550 of overage from reserve funds if necessary. The council also instructed treasurer-transition procedures so incoming treasurer Sheila can direct funds when they come in.
