Waldwick Board opens school year, highlights construction work and schedules committee meetings

The Waldwick Board of Education convened a regular meeting on Sept. 9, 2024, at 7:00 p.m. with President Daniel Marro calling the session to order and confirming that notice was given under the Open Public Meetings Act, Chapter 231, Laws of 1975.
Dr. Paul Casarico, superintendent of schools, briefed the board on opening-day activities and new-teacher training and thanked custodial and maintenance staff for preparing the buildings. Casarico said staff showed “energy and excitement” for the start of the school year and announced dates for Back to School Night. He also provided a general update that a construction project is underway and that additional projects are planned, without offering a detailed timeline or budget at the meeting.
Trustee Andrew Frey moved, and Vice President Troy Seifert seconded, approval of the Aug. 19, 2024 regular meeting minutes; the roll call as recorded at the meeting shows the motion passed. Frey then moved — with Seifert seconding — to introduce the consent agenda and to add items labeled 45-A-19 and 45-A-20 to the list of consent items (45-A-1 through 45-A-20; 45-F-1 through 45-F-4; 45-P-1 through 45-P-13). The board recorded no discussion on consent items during the meeting.
President Marro said he intends to schedule meetings of the Athletic, Policy and Buildings & Grounds committees to address forthcoming items on those agendas. John Griffin, board secretary, signed the minutes as submitted.
The meeting adjourned at 7:20 p.m. on a motion by Trustee Mary Beth Nappi, seconded by Trustee Frey.
