Board adopts policy updates, approves field trips and community town hall

Wallkill Valley’s board adopted multiple policies (including student smoking, graduation and electronic surveillance rules), accepted NJQSAC review results, and approved field trips and a Wallkill Valley Community Coalition town-hall use of the cafeteria and auditorium on April 15.
The Wallkill Valley Regional High School Board adopted several policy updates at its Feb. 25 meeting, accepting final readings for policies including 5533 (Student Smoking), 5460 (High School Graduation), 5516 (Use of Electronic Communication Devices), 5701 (Academic Integrity), 5710 (Student Grievance), 8500 (Food Service), 7441 (Electronic Surveillance) and 9320 (Cooperation with Law Enforcement). The board also accepted the second reading of the new regulation 9163 (Spectator Code of Conduct for Interscholastic Events).
The Board accepted the Comprehensive Financial Report for fiscal year 2023–2024 and the New Jersey Quality Single Accountability Continuum (NJQSAC) District Performance Review for 2024–2025 as noted in the agenda. The audit report and related materials were placed on file in the Office of the School Business Administrator.
Facilities approvals included a building-use request from the Wallkill Valley Community Coalition to use the cafeteria and auditorium on Tuesday, April 15, 2025, from 4:00 p.m. to 8:30 p.m., for a town-hall meeting for Alcohol Awareness Month; the motion passed unanimously. The board also approved multiple field trips scheduled between Feb. 28 and April 11, 2025, and recorded travel/professional development expense approvals (examples: virtual training May 30, and an off-site Sports Science Seminar on March 6). Travel expenses were recorded and signed by the School Business Administrator/Board Secretary.
Board Secretary/School Business Administrator Joseph P. Hurley Jr. reminded members that School Ethics Commission personal disclosure statements are due April 30, 2025.
