Student achievement, dress code and NJSBA ethics presented; public questions reduced comment time

At its Jan. 28 meeting, the Wallkill Valley Regional High School Board heard a student-report on achievement, a presentation on ethics from the New Jersey School Boards Association and a public question about a change to public-comment time.
Board President Jacqueline Elmo introduced high school student representative Jesse Diribe, who spoke about student achievement. Mr. Carr and Mr. Diribe also discussed the student dress code during the student representative report portion of the agenda.
Kelly Mitchell of the New Jersey School Boards Association delivered a presentation on ethics for school board members and attendees. The presentation was listed on the agenda and recorded in the minutes; no formal action followed the presentation.
During the public-comment period related to agenda items, resident David Dreifuss welcomed new board members and asked why the time allotted for public comment had been reduced to one (minute). The board did not record a formal response to that question in the minutes; the comment was noted by the chair and recorded in the public-comment section of the minutes.
The board proceeded to approve routine business and moved on to other agenda items.
