Washington Township council adopts $3.0 million bond ordinance for trash receptacles, approves contracts and licenses

Washington Township Council unanimously adopted Ordinance 0016-2024 on Oct. 23, 2024, approving a $3.0 million appropriation to acquire trash receptacles and authorizing the issuance of $2,857,142 in bonds or notes to finance part of the purchase. Council President Mr. Del Borrello called for the adoption; Mr. Bennett moved the ordinance and Mr. DellaPia seconded. The measure passed 5-0.
The ordinance had a public hearing before adoption; no members of the public spoke. Council also introduced Ordinance 0017-2024 to amend the Township Code (Chapter 2, Article IX, Department of Law Enforcement, and Chapter 80, Article I, Fees). Mr. Bennett moved to introduce Ordinance 0017-2024, seconded by Mr. Yerkes; the motion carried 5-0. A public hearing and adoption for Ordinance 0017-2024 are scheduled for Nov. 20, 2024.
As part of a consent agenda approved in a single vote, the council adopted Resolutions R264-2024 through R274-2024. The consent items included routine personnel and tax actions (refunds of tax overpayments; tax cancellations for two totally disabled veterans, James Casalunova and Paul Kupiec), authorization to solicit bids for 2024–25 snow‑plowing services, and advertising a request for proposals for 2025 professional services.
The consent agenda also awarded several contracts: Dutchman Contracting, LLC was awarded the contract for a police pole barn (Project #08-18-T-453) intended to house police equipment; SDW Construction, Inc. received the award for Appaloosa Way erosion stabilization (Project #08-18-T-416); a time extension was approved for Arawak Paving Co., Inc. for the 2023 Road Program—Phase I (Project 0818-T-440); and an amusement park and games license for Nifty Fifty's (4670 Route 42, Turnersville) was approved for Jan. 1–Dec. 31, 2025. Council approved the consent agenda by voice vote after a motion from Mr. Brown and a second from Mr. Yerkes.
Councilmembers also approved the Oct. 23 bill list and the Oct. 9 meeting minutes with unanimous votes earlier in the evening.
In other business reported to the council, Mr. Yerkes said the township received a federal check for $696,000 to redo the dams at Spring Lake and Ward Lake. "We received a check for $696,000 from the Federal government to redo the dams at Spring Lake and Ward Lake," he stated.
The council set its next regular meeting for Nov. 20, 2024, at 6:00 p.m.
