The Reinbeck City Council on April 6 opened and promptly closed a public hearing on the city’s proposed property tax levy after City Administrator Julie Wilkerson presented the projected rate for the coming fiscal year.
"The current year certified property taxes levy rate is $12.10487 and that if the budget was kept the same for the next fiscal year the levy rate would be $11.87046. But, due to employee wages and benefit increases as well as insurance increases, the levy rate will be $12.10245," Wilkerson told the council at 5:00 p.m. in Council Chambers.
The numbers Wilkerson cited show a projected levy very near the current certified rate but slightly lower than the figure that would result from holding the budget level. The presentation did not propose specific budget cuts or revenue changes; Wilkerson attributed the change to anticipated increases in personnel and insurance costs.
Following the presentation, Councilmember Johnson moved to close the hearing; Councilmember Trepp seconded. The motion carried on a 4-0 vote of the members present (Councilmembers Wambold, Johnson, Trepp and Bueghly); Councilmember Pease was absent. The minutes note the hearing was closed at 5:05 p.m.
Councilmember Bueghly then moved to adjourn the special meeting, seconded by Councilmember Wambold; that motion also carried 4-0 and the meeting was adjourned at 5:05 p.m. The minutes of this special meeting are recorded as the minutes to be approved by the council at its next regular meeting.
No public comments, written or oral, were recorded in the minutes during the hearing.
