Waterford enrollment dips to 907; board approves staffing changes and a teacher retirement

The Waterford Township Board of Education reviewed the superintendent’s monthly reports and approved a slate of personnel actions at its Sept. 18 meeting.

Superintendent Dr. Michael A. Nolan presented the fall enrollment report showing total district enrollment at 907 for 2024–25, down from 935 the prior year. The enrollment table provided per‑grade counts (examples: PK‑3 increased to 76, kindergarten 108, grade 6 decreased from 132 to 115) and noted the district’s drill and wellness reporting.

Following the enrollment briefing, the board approved multiple personnel items by roll call vote: annual stipends for team leaders and head teachers, acceptance of paraprofessional resignations, appointment of certified staff (including a long‑term substitute assignment for A. Hand), the creation and reallocation of certain support‑staff positions (including a Building Secretary/Accounts Payable position), and the appointment of specific paraprofessionals for the 2024–25 year. The board also acknowledged the retirement notice of Tracey Bober, an elementary teacher with 18 years of service, effective Feb. 1, 2025.

Motions were made by board members (noted motions included Ms. Libak Fanz, Mr. Galante, Ms. Hunter, and Mr. Leach as movers or seconders) and were carried by roll call as recorded in the minutes. The board tabled one administrative item until the Oct. 16 meeting.

Action and next steps: the approved hires are contingent upon receipt of required documentation where noted; the business office and human-resources functions will process hires, position changes and retirement paperwork.
