Washington Township council approves consent agenda, introduces $3 million bond ordinance for trash receptacles

Washington Township Council on Oct. 9 unanimously approved a consent agenda of resolutions, accepted several grants and contract awards, and introduced a bond ordinance to pay for new trash receptacles.
The council introduced Bond Ordinance 0016-2024, which would appropriate $3,000,000 and authorize issuing $2,857,142 in bonds or notes to finance acquisition of trash receptacles. The ordinance was introduced by Mr. Brown, seconded by Mr. Bennett, and the council set a public hearing and adoption for Oct. 23, 2024.
Council also approved Resolution R262-2024 to request acceptance of opioid settlement grant funds in the amount of $237,378.45 and Resolution R261-2024 to accept a 2022 Federal Bulletproof Vest Grant for $9,057.63. The consent agenda (Resolutions R253-2024 through R263-2024) included cooperative-pricing authorization, contract change orders and maintenance guarantees for local road and park projects, turf services for high school athletic fields, and two solicitations to lease township-owned properties for agricultural use. Township Clerk Christine Cialletla read the titles; Mr. Brown moved to approve the consent agenda and Mr. Yerkes seconded. The vote was unanimous (Yerkes, Bennett, Brown, DellaPia, Del Borrello).
Council also approved routine motions to accept the bill list for Oct. 9 and the Sept. 25 regular meeting minutes (motion by Mr. Brown; second by Mr. DellaPia; unanimous votes).
What happens next: the bond ordinance (0016-2024) will return for public hearing and possible adoption at the council’s Oct. 23 meeting. Contracts and grant acceptances approved on Oct. 9 will proceed under the terms noted in each resolution.
