Residents press township on open-space maintenance, trash transition and volunteer opportunities

During public participation on July 24, several Washington Township residents raised local maintenance and service issues and sought follow-up from municipal staff.
Robert Davis (72 Saddlebrook Drive) urged the council to inform residents that a new trash contractor will begin service on Aug. 1 and asked for patience during the transition; Mayor Burns said a social-media notice was scheduled and officials recommended residents contact Public Works with problems.
Susan Veasy (209 Lake Avenue) said Grenloch Park’s appearance concerns her and asked that docks be replaced with Trex decking; councilmembers suggested Clean Communities or Public Works could assist and invited her to a township meeting for further discussion.
Maria Harb (43 Saddlebrook Drive) said neighbors who had been maintaining a nearby open-space parcel received a letter forbidding cutting; she asked the township to hire a contractor to maintain the area and reported she had not received a response from the Zoning Department. Business Administrator Mr. Russo replied Public Works would tend to the area and the township would place a lien if needed.
Michael McCloskey (41 Saddlebrook Drive) asked about the status of Block 17.11 Lot 51; Township Attorney Mr. Wright said the matter is in litigation, that an answer had been filed and that records tied to active litigation may not be produced via OPRA at this time.
Zachary Abrams (27 Auriga Lane) offered his time and skills as a volunteer, expressed disappointment that the skate park was eliminated and asked about volunteer opportunities; Councilmember Mr. Del Borrello invited him to discuss ideas and Mr. Brown suggested contacting the Fire Department about volunteer roles.
Council members said staff would follow up: Public Works and the Zoning Officer will assess maintenance requests and administration will post the trash-contractor notice.
The council closed public participation and moved to adjourn at 7:09 p.m.
